The shelter offers protection when staying at home is unsafe due to violence, threats, or fear.
Violence is not always easy to recognize. It may leave no visible marks. In addition to physical harm, violence can include coercion, intimidation, destruction of property, forced sex, verbal abuse, and stalking. Violence rarely stops on its own — it often repeats and escalates over time. For a child, living with violence creates an unsafe environment.
You can come to the shelter alone or with children at any time of day or night, regardless of your municipality of residence. The shelter is free of charge and no referral is needed. It is a homelike and comfortable place with staff available around the clock. Our staff will support you in resolving the crisis situation.
Violence always causes harm and must be addressed. Don’t hesitate to seek help!
What happens at the shelter?
Professional staff at the shelter support you in recovering from violence and help explore possible solutions for your family’s situation. Confidential conversations offer space to process your feelings and thoughts, and to find ways to ease your situation.
Our work is guided primarily by the best interests of the child in all circumstances. In our child-focused services, every child is seen and heard — whether they have experienced or witnessed violence. Our staff help children express their feelings and experiences. Supporting parenthood is a central part of our work.
During your stay at the shelter, you may continue working and your children can attend daycare or school, if possible. Shelter staff also assist with practical arrangements.
